South Mississippi Businesses Awarded over $177 Million in Government Contracts

Biloxi, MS — South Mississippi Contract Procurement Center, Inc. (SMCPC), part of the Mississippi Procurement Technical Assistance Program (MPTAP) serves the lower fifteen (15) counties of Mississippi. SMCPC, at no charge to its clients, assists Mississippi businesses with obtaining and successfully performing on federal, state, and local government and commercial contracts.

Besides being a Mississippi business, another requirement as a SMCPC client is to report on a quarterly basis the number and dollar value of contracts that the client received whereby they believed that SMCPC played a significant role. SMCPC assists businesses in various ways. Some of the services SMCPC provides include the following: assistance with government registration, obtaining certifications, electronic bid matching, technical support, and referrals.

For the partial 2007 fiscal year (October 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007), SMCPC clients have reported the following:

Prime Contract Awards Total was $163,107,805 ($124,886,274 was State and/or Local Government Awards)

Subcontract Awards Total was $14,362,820 ($7,835,547 was State and/or Local Government Awards)

The $177,470,625 is the result of client-reported 183 awarded contracts. This dollar figure equates to a total of 4,176 jobs created or retained in our local communities. $42,500 is the economic indicator used to calculate a “job”. This indicator is the industry average per the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (APTAC).
