PRCC President Dr. William A. Lewis and MDA Existing Industry and Business Division Director Chandler Russ Named to Mississippi Enterprise for Technology Board of Directors

Stennis Space Center, MS — The Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MsET) has announced the installation of Dr. William A. Lewis, president of Pearl River Community College (PRCC), and Chandler Russ, director of the Mississippi Development Authority’s (MDA’s) Existing Industry and Business (EIB) Division, to its Board of Directors. Located in Hancock County on the site of the John C. Stennis Space Center, MsET is a non-profit organization that works to create, retain and attract high-skill, high-wage jobs in Mississippi by tapping the state’s scientific and technical assets.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. William Lewis and Chandler Russ on board,” said Charles Beasley, MsET president and CEO. “Their diverse backgrounds and extensive work experience will be a tremendous asset to MsET’s Board of Directors as we all work together to create even better jobs for the citizens of Mississippi.”

Since Dr. Lewis’ appointment as president of PRCC in 2000, the school has experienced significant growth in enrollment, developed a national reputation for excellence in teaching and learning, produced a national championship in football and is widely recognized for the high quality of its arts programs.

Dr. Lewis previously served as the executive director of the Public Education Forum of Mississippi and as the superintendent of the Petal School District, during which time the district offered, for the first time ever, a model program in polymer technology that symbolized the district’s focus on technology and workforce development. He has also taught, coached and held various administrative assignments in the state’s public schools, community colleges and universities.

Chandler Russ joined MDA in 2008 following four years as a project manager with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). In his role as EIB Division Director, Russ’ primary responsibility is to identify and meet the needs of new and existing businesses, as well as the needs of local economic developers, on behalf of the State of Mississippi. In addition to TVA, Russ’ prior experience includes serving as executive director of the Brookhaven/Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and as an economic developer for the Industrial Development Foundation in Brookhaven. He has also worked with the Copiah County Economic Development District and the Nevada County Economic Development office in Prescott, Ark.

Russ is currently the vice president of economic development for the Mississippi Economic Development Council, a member of Leadership Mississippi and a representative of TEAM Mississippi, an economic development partnership between MDA and the state’s utility providers.
