The Stennis Business Consortium (SBC), coordinated by the Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MsET) and partner the Louisiana Technology Transfer Office (LTTO), will be holding the inaugural quarterly meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 at the StenniSphere Auditorium at Stennis Space Center. All company representatives interested in procurement and partnership opportunities are invited to attend.

The SBC was created as a forum where procurement officers and small business advocates from government agencies and prime contractors at Stennis can provide information on upcoming contract activities with each other and smaller businesses. It is planned that, over time, other agencies and contractors from the region will participate as well. For the first meeting, agencies and prime contractors will be describing their work in the region, then will provide upcoming possibilities for doing business with them, to include announcements such as vendor databases used to identify potential providers. Additionally, prime contractors have been encouraged to announce their needs in meeting contract small business goals, the need for partners on bids both in and outside the Stennis region, and any desires to form strategic alliances for various upcoming opportunities.

“We are holding meetings quarterly, working further with agencies and companies in between,” detailed MsET President and CEO, Charles Beasley. “The concept for the SBC is not new – it is patterned after similar groups at other NASA and Navy Centers. Where these groups exist, they serve to enhance communications between agencies and local businesses. Companies get better information and can be prepared for the bid process, and the government and prime contractors get more participation in the competitive process.” A portion of MsET’s SBC work is funded by the Magnolia Business Alliance through a Small Business Administration contract.

On the agenda for the opening meeting are representatives from NASA, the Navy, NOAA, and other agencies at Stennis. The recently appointed NASA Stennis Procurement Officer, Robert Harris, will introduce himself and provide a brief overview of NASA Stennis activities. Also, the Small Business Specialist for NASA Stennis, Michelle Stracener, will provide information on how the Marshall Space Flight Center facilitates their quarterly small business meetings. Additionally, she will provide a forecast for upcoming Stennis procurements through the end of the fiscal year. Other agencies will follow suit with their procurement forecasts. The meeting will close with presentations from local prime contractors that have opportunities for small businesses.
